British Values Statement

Promoting fundamental British Values at Grange Park Primary School

In accordance with the Department for Education we aim to actively promote British Values at Grange Park to ensure that all our pupils leave school fully rounded members of modern Britain.

We take seriously our commitment to:

Fundamental British Value of democracy

The rule of Law

Individual liberty

Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

At Grange Park we celebrate diversity and embrace inclusivity. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races, cultures and neuro-diversities with respect and tolerance.

British Values is integral part of day-to-day life at Grange Park. British Values is embedded across all subject areas within our curriculum offer as well as through the teaching of Personal, Social, Health and Economic which is taught discretely following the Jigsaw programme. Through the teaching of World Views and Religious Education and our enhanced provision all children have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the world around them and other faiths through a range of experiences and personalised learning opportunities.

Pupils are taught ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, building respectful and trusting relationships with others and abiding by our school’s rules and behaviour policy. It is important to us to encourage all children to build confidence in expressing their own voice whilst also being mindful of others and their differences.

Our school council representatives meet regularly to maintain a healthy democracy at Grange Park that is built around mutual respect, tolerance and compassion. We hope to empower all our pupils to take responsibility for how we move forward in our own community, as British Citizens and as part of our world through freedom of speech.

Enhancement

We provide regular enhancement opportunities to both engage learning and to give our children wider world memorable experiences.

In addition to our PSHE curriculum there is a programme of annual experiences, some whole school and some year group specific to which develop children’s understanding so that they become well rounded, tolerant citizens who know how to keep themselves safe in the world.

Further to this, taking the idea from the local councils 10 by 10 initiative whereby they encourage children to try ten activities before they are ten years old, we have developed our own Grange Park enhancement provision. Taking the age children will be when they leave each year group from Nursery right through to Year 6 (four by four right through to eleven by eleven) we have identified annual opportunities for all of our children to experience.
